Zhi Oval Taotie Lamps
SKU:
LGCL0107V
The archaistic verdigris brass vessel called Zhi is a ceremonial wine container. It features a pear-shaped body and an oval section, supported by a splayed foot. Adorned with Taotie masks, it embodies the distinctive style of the Late Shang period (12th-11th CBC) in China. These vessels hold great significance as symbols of the ancient Chinese royalty and elite.

Crafted by hand, the Zhi vessel is made from robust brass with thick walls, employing the technique of sand casting. The intentionally induced surface oxidation and wear give it an appearance reminiscent of ancient bronzes, adding to its historical allure.
